I heard about a great new blog today, called “The Nourishing Cook.” The author is attempting to cook at least 700 recipes out of Nourishing Traditions, the ultimate good-for-you cookbook, by December 31, 2011 — just like in the movie, Julie and Julia.
What a great idea! I’ve subscribed to her blog, just to follow along. She’s already made whey, something I made in my kitchen just this very week, because I’m adding it to Baby Alistair’s formula.
I wouldn’t personally want to make all 700 recipes, because some include unclean foods. But I’m hoping to follow along with her and try as many as possible. Okay, I’ve already tried a TON of them, but there are some I’ve never had the courage to try, so maybe this will inspire me. Also, my husband is always coming up with great ways to improve the recipes (he’s a really good cook!), so if he comes up with good ideas, I’ll try to pass them along.
Bon appetite!

Anne… I found you when I googled my site. Thanks so much for the mention in your blog! I look forward to perusing your thoughts as well. I love learning about clean eating so this is a really great blog. Would love to hear more about what ‘unclean’ foods are in NT? Are you referring to pork and seafood? thanks much!!

Yes, I was meaning “biblically” (kosher) unclean, like pork, shellfish, blood, etc. I’m not sure about some of the sweet breads. (Does anyone know?) I’m pretty new to eating “clean” foods myself. I just use the list of foods in the Bible, Leviticus 11. (I’m not Jewish myself.) But it’s easy to substitute coconut oil or butter for lard, for instance.
But I’m so excited to follow along with you on your blog! My husband said yesterday that we should try what you’re trying. A year or so ago, I made ginger carrots, and no one would eat them, but when we read that your family liked them, Hubbie said to try again. Yay!
Keep up the great work. We’re all cheering for you!
